Here's my taped interview with artist David Kassan. We had such an interesting conversation last Thursday. Many thanks to David for inviting me to contribute to his series of conversations with artists.

Sketchbook Live on March 22

Tune in at 1:00 p.m. E.S.T. on Thursday, March 22 to Shetchbook Live, artist Jon David Kassan's interactive dialogue with the representational art community.

David will be interviewing me as the latest chapter in his series of informal artist interviews. The interview will take place at his studio in Brooklyn, NY, and it will be streaming live.

To watch it, here's what to do: Start a little before 1:00 to give yourself time to get on. First go to http://sketchbooklive.com/ and log in. You will then be able to listen to the webcast and type in questions while it's going on.

Later that day, from 5-7 p.m., please join me at the Fischbach Gallery, 210 11th Ave (corner of 25th St. and 11th Ave.) in Chelsea, NYC, for the opening of my one-person show of my recent paintings of Maine.

The opening date (April 13) of The Expedition and Beyond group show is fast approaching, and I'm delighted to report that show catalogs are now available for online purchase. Click here to order, or to preview. The 29-page book includes lots of color photos of our "expedition" in Charleston, SC, images of the 13 artists' work, and an essay by John O'Hern. The show opens April 13 at the Principle Gallery in Alexandria, VA.

A little bit of Maine will be coming to NYC soon, in the form of my new solo show at the Fischbach Gallery. This will be purely a landscape show. If you are curious about my work process, this exhibition will give you some idea of how I work, because you will see small plein air oil sketches right on up to very large studio paintings including some aerial panoramas. For those of you who missed seeing Right Here in Maine last August, this will be a good opportunity to see at least some of that work, and if you did make it up to Rockland, there will be some new work in this show.

Hope you can make it to the opening! Lots of Chelsea galleries are open on the third Thursday of every month, so you can visit several, go out to dinner, and make an evening of it.

LIKENESS, Contemporary Portraits by Philadelphia Artists

There's an exhibit of contemporary portraiture going on right now in downtown Philadelphia. It's called "Likeness," and it's at the Board of Ethics on the 2nd floor of the Packard Building at 15th and Sansom Streets. The exhibit is curated by artist Brooke Hine and sponsored by InLiquid. If you find yourself walking down Sansom Street or anywhere nearby, please stop by to see some exciting work by the 10 Philadelphia figurative artists listed below. Some of my portraits of well-known people in Philadelphia's art community are on display.
